Spokane, Washington
A great little downtown.
Spokane is one of my favorite cities to visit. It is such an easy downtown to be in. You can stay right in the heart of the downtown and walk to do everything. It is impossible to talk about downtown Spokane without talking about Riverfront Park. It is a beautiful park with bridges that allow you to meander back and forth across the river. On this trip the river’s waterfalls were spectacular!
The park also has great artwork scattered everywhere. I love taking my morning walk through the park. It feels like around every corner there is something new to discover. Here are a few, but I know I haven’t discovered them all yet. What a great reason to go back.
The park also contains a carousel and gondola rides over the river.
Another thing I appreciate about Spokane is that it has maintained many great historic buildings. They bring such great character to the downtown.
One of the historic building I love has been turned into one of my favorite restaurants, The Steam Plant. The food is great, they have an amazing beer selection, and they make great mixed drinks as well.
The star of the show for me is the building itself. They have left many elements of the steam plant, so there is something to look at in every directions.
Another thing I love about downtown Spokane are the Davenport Hotels. They have the Historic Davenport, the Tower, the Lucio, and the Grand. This was my first stay at the Grand Hotel and I loved it. I had a corner room overlooking the park. There was great artwork in the room that reflected the city as well as fun artwork in the lobby.
Beyond the beautiful outdoors, hotels, historic building and great restaurants, I would be remiss not to mention that there is some pretty good shopping as well. The stores aren’t huge, but some of my favorites are there. They are also less crowded then the ones in larger cities.
If you have never been to downtown Spokane you should take a trip there. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Cheers!
